Healthy You

What is Healthy You?

Healthy You was previously known as the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) at San Fernando Recreation Park. The DPP was a free wellness program for individuals who were at risk for Type 2 Diabetes. The program is an extension of our 3 WINS exercise program and first began in the summer of 2013 as a thesis project developed by three CSUN Graduate students studying Exercise Physiology. Since then, the program continues to thrive at our parks.

Healthy You is based on the CDC's (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) National Diabetes Prevention Program and includes all the same information on the prevention of Type 2 Diabetes, while also teaching participants lifestyle techniques to prevent Heart Disease and other common chronic diseases.

Why you should join!

The main goal of Healthy You is assisting participants, through nutrition and wellness education, in losing 5-7% of their body weight. Statistically, this is shown to decrease the chances of developing Type 2 Diabetes by 58%. Healthy You is available for anyone to join and takes place after 3 WINS exercise classes. These discussions are 30-40 minutes long and include topics such as healthy eating habits, stress management, and tips to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Participants in Healthy You receive healthy recipes and personalized action plans based on their goals. Combining our exercise program with Healthy You education will teach individuals and communities to take control of their health and be all they can be!
